The brave heroes have come at last to the site of Rolens Folly, once known as the great elf city of Celefin. Each heroic adventurer has slayed many grotesque monsters advancing through the forest and into the center of the ruined city. Now they stand before a humongous portal and next to that is a strange figure in red robes. The party decides to slowly advance, but Titan stays back for some strange reason. No hero can determine the red robed figures origins, but it does seem the size of a dwarf. The mysterious figure is still chanting a ritual in Deep Speech to fully open the portal, which the warlord can make out the word “Abyss”. The heroes are now convinced the stranger is trying to open a portal to unleash demons onto Anvilmoor. The fighter unleashes a throaty roar gaining the attention of the stranger for a minute, but the figure goes back to his ritual paying no heed to the orc. Creine Zephyr decides to charge forward.
Lich – The minotaur misses his gore attack and upon reaching the robed creature his skin crackles. Tricepatops “Tri” charges the portal column, unleashing a mighty swing upon it and causing little damage. The dwarf ranger tries to perceive who or what they are fighting to no avail, while the rogue flings a shuriken at their foe. The battle commences in earnest, with the villian flinging magic attacks at the party, while the portal crackles to life. The fighter looks deep into the portal and sees demonic fire on the other side. The group continues to strike at the foe, but getting within arms reach they can feel their life energies being sapped. Minor demons start to come through the portal, becoming a dangerous nuisance to an already perilous fight. After being hit numerous times, the villian unleashes a devastating attack pushing away the fighter, warlord, and ranger, and making the two big hitters to swing at their ally, Finn. The heroes slay some more of the demons and concentrate on the red robed figure, who is now using his poisoned tipped dagger on the party. Finally the heroes turn the creature to dust after inflicting many blows upon it. They then clean up the rest of the minor demons.
Ruby Swifthammer digs through the dust pile left behind by the villian and pockets it’s dagger. Before they can celebrate their victory though, a giant hand appears through the portal. Sensing danger, the warlord leaps back from the portal, while the halfling steels himself for further fighting. The huge demon struggles getting through the portal before it collapses, causing massive damage to the mighty beast.
Goristro – Debating to fight or flight, the Finnan Keen decides to try and take the demon down and proceeds to unleash an incredible series of attacks that causes the monster tremendous pain. Goristro chucks a slab of stone at the fighter knocking him down and seeing the pale imitation of horns on the minotaur charges the warlord. Tricepatops takes an opportunistic swing with Deathbringer, while knocked prone and still manages to connect on the huge demon. Creine, though, feels the wrath of the monster as it gores him. The heroes, weakened by the previous battle, are in bad shape and start to heal themselves to continue the fight. Taking more damage, Goristro becomes enraged and tries to slam the fighter, warlord, and rogue, but the heroes continue to release immense pain upon the demon. The last blows come from Drengi thracking the great monster in the head and then Ruby charging the demon and swinging her warhammer through the demon’s abdomen. Goristro explodes in demonic fire, burning the ranger and fighter who were too close to the blast.
The fighter investigates the demon’s remains and finds a gem. He asks the rogue what the value is and the greedy halfling bluffs him into thinking it isn’t worth much hoping to take the gem for himself. Creine sees a treasure chest to the side and calls Finn over to see it it’s locked or booby trapped. No traps and unlocked, the minotaur opens it up and divides the treasures within fairly. Inside is 2,000 gold, a Helm of Battle, Belt of Vim, and Dwarven Greaves. Each member gets 500 gold and the items are passed to those who can make the best use out of them. Finnan heads over to a bookshelf and goes through some of the papers, but seeing they are written in dwarvish calls the wizard over. Finn does find Barrage Bracers on the shelf. The warforged, who didn’t battle the demons oddly enough, reads through the texts and scrolls and comes to the conclusion that the red robed figure was a lich and was the one responsible for the grotesque monstrosities that massacred the elves in the woods and the other monsters found in Sewers of Wilhelm. With this new information, the heroes start to travel onwards to Duran…
