The party is at Heimdal getting ready to embark for Volun’s Dungeon again. Ajenta Summerwind left town hours ago for unknown reasons. So the group is at ‘The Seadog’ tossing back a few, when a stranger approaches them. He is an avenger in service of The Raven Queen and is looking to join up with our adventurers. Creine Zephyr dislikes him immediately, until the bladeling buys a couple rounds. Finnan Keen is willing to let the avenger in, as long as his cut of the loot is small. Titan is silent, so the other two let Leonitas Brutalaus join their party on an interim basis. To avoid losing any gold, Finnan bargains with Bimul to give them a discount if he uses his bard skills to entertain the other patrons. After visiting some of the local stores, the party heads out towards the dungeon again.
Finn’s Past - Trekking through the woods, about halfway to the dungeon, the thief gets a feeling that someone is tracking them. Proceeding alone a little further he discovers an elf woman and her band of mercenaries. The elf woman tells Finnan to come with her quietly, because someone hired her to find him. Finn declines and a fight ensues. Although the party had a little trouble with some drakes, the rest of the mercs fell easily enough. Leaving one of the archers alive, the group disarms and questions him.
He only knows that he was hired to take the halfling thief with no grievous harm and that he thinks his leader is still breathing. When they say he can leave peacefully, the archer turns to flee and the minotaur sinks his battleaxe into the defenseless man’s back. Going over to the wounded elf woman, the heroes question her to which she reveals everything. Finn’s ex-employer, Sir Samuel Heinrich, sent this bounty hunter woman to capture Finnan alive. The elf bounty hunter, Lainwen Duskstalker, hands Finn a letter written in Elvish and then the party proceeds to loot her still breathing body. They find a silver necklace, an Amulet of Protection, and 2 Potions of Healing. Giving her one of the potions and binding her limbs, the party takes her back to Heimdal’s jail.
The group finally reaches the dungeon and proceeds past the double doors the Sentinel was guarding. Going down a level, the party finds a room with a dried up well. Spending an hour dropping stuff down the well, the heroes eventually get back to adventuring. Letting the FNG peek through a door and finding undead rats, the rest of the group tries to lure the vermin into the well room.
Zombie Rats?!! - While the new guy is swarmed, the others take advantage of their human shield and slay multiple rats in a matter of seconds. The two famine rats deal some decent damage to Leonitas and Creine, but are also taken down without much fight.
While Leonitas and Titan explore the old stockroom, the warlord wastes time throwing the rat carcasses in the well. Proceeding into another door, the group finds a long hallway with rusted armaments adorning the walls. Halfway down the hall, they find double doors and cautiously proceed through. They enter a large, dark room that is split in two by a wall in the middle. Creeping along in the shadows without much light given from the wizard, the party finds many beds of dwarven size on the left side of the room. Then the crafty wizard throws his light onto a far bed to give them better sight, but the inhabitants of this room manage to see the avenger in the dim light. A shrill, cold cry is heard from the back of the room and an answer is heard on the other side.
Skeleton Army - The skeleton archers take aim at multiple targets, while the skelly fighters charge the minotaur. Titan avoids backing himself into a corner and unleashes magic missle after magic missle, while Creine hacks away at the living bones in front of him. Leonitas is able to do great damage to the horde as any holy man should. Meanwhile, Finn charges in with his short sword, jumps on a bed, and whiffs completely. Eventually the undead are whittled down and only the elite skeleton remained, letting all the party to beat him down.
After the battle the group begins looting this ancient guardroom and finds: 400gp, a Shield of Protection, and 2 Potions of Healing. The adventurers decide to set up camp in the room, so they block the door with as much stuff as they can and rest…
