Our heroes have been tasked to travel with Gini Godbronze to Duran. Bolar Bloodhammer awaits them there to discuss recent events at the Frostspire and Blue Mountains. Packing the last of their things into their mounts bags, the group heads east. For two days it is a peaceful trip, but the third day brings adventure. Elves are running madly towards the road from the southern forest, desperately seeking safety. As a fleeing elf comes towards the group, Finnan Keen greets him in elvish. The refugee stops and frantically tells the halfling that hideous monsters are slaying and burning everything in the forest. The rogue tries to find out more from him, but the scared elf is too shocked to be much more help. Gini tasks the group with slaying these monsters and finding out what is going on in the forest. He will await the party in Duran with Bolar and promises them a reward for their services.
The warlord has the companions advance cautiously to the edge of the forest. Many refugees pass by, distracting their scout’s vision. Though Finn can’t see much ahead, the dwarf keenly sees grotesque monsters slaying the unlucky elves not fast enough to save themselves. Ruby Swifthammer relays to the group that there is monsters above them on the walkways between the massive trees of the forest, but the more immediate danger our some just ahead trying to break into a lodging. Hiding behind a tree, the minotaur recommends the wizard to cast a ghost sound away from their location to lure some of the monsters away from the small elvish farmstead and he also hears the monsters use Deep Speech. The warforged cast the sound of swords clanging and it does attract attention away from the group. The warlord then has everyone get ready for battle.
Brotherhood of Evil Monsters – The heroes surprise the monsters with their first attacks. Finn hits a large foe, sinking a shuriken deep in the creature’s rough hide. The large creature, looking like a set of plate armor fused to a humanoid’s flesh, charges at the halfling in a fit of rage. Luckily, the small thief hid behind Creine Zephyr. The warlord takes the heavy blow for his friend. Tricepatops “Tri” charges ahead to confront a grotesque creature that looks like a human crossed with a sabertooth tiger. Ruby engages a shapeshifter, while Titan fires away from the rear at a cluster of foes far away. As the big orc trades blows with the sabertoothed man, the wizard’s magic misses its mark against several enemies.
More monsters enter the battle, but after much battling the heroes start to thin their ranks. Eventually all the monsters are killed.
After the skirmish, the party approaches the elven house and the rogue shouts in elvish for the inhabitants to let them in. After some debate inside, the door is unlocked and the group sees two older elven men. Their names are Selrahc Reivax and Kire Rrehsnel. They say the monsters seem to have come from Rolens Folly and they can lead the party their. After some debate, like the warlord challenging the elder elves if they could fight and Kire swiftly drawing his sword, the companions agree. Finn asks if Kire’s sword has a name to which the elf says ‘Kelenor’, an elvish word for beauty. After a day and night of travelling through the denser undergrowth of the forest, they reach the outskirts of Celefin. They spot a large portal crackling with magical energy in the dead center of town. Moving on stealthly, the companions move steadily inward to the center of the once great elvish city. They finally reach the portal and hide behind a ruined building. A red robed figure is seen shouting magical incantations in Deep Speech with all it’s attention fixed upon opening the portal. Creine gives the order to attack after Titan creates another ghost sound to lure some enemies away from them.
X-Monsters – The ranger and fighter move around to take out a ferocious looking beast of a man with long claws. The warlord and rogue double team a flying elemental looking woman, while the wizard gathers energy to blast his foes to bits. Tri and Ruby have a hard time dealing with the humaniod wolverine, as it unleashes ferocious attacks upon them. The stormy elemental is slayed swiftly by the tagteam of the minotaur and the halfling. More enemies appear, but are soon slain by the warforge’s magic and the rest of his teammates martial prowess. A particular ugly monstrosity, a undersized cyclops with optic beams, is the last foe to die.
The fight over with, the heroes must now confront the mysterious red robed villian that stands before them and a massive active portal…
